The highly competitive Utrecht Excellence Scholarships (UES) are open to talented international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA, which includes the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway) who wish to study for a master’s degree at Utrecht University.

Benefits of Utrecht Excellence Scholarships
The following methods may be used to award the Utrecht Excellence Scholarships:
- The cost of tuition
- The IND (Immigration and Naturalization Service) determines a residency permit for study, which is connected to the tuition charge plus the income needed for a year.
- For the second year of a two-year master’s degree, the scholarship may be extended.
How to apply for Utrecht Excellence Scholarships
- Beginning on November 1, 2024, non-EU/EEA students who have applied (or applied) for a master’s degree that qualifies for UES will be allowed to apply for one Utrecht Excellence Scholarship.
- Your OSIRIS Online Application account dashboard will display the UES application or applications.
- Click View/Edit for the UES-linked (related procedure) to submit an application for a program.
- After that, finish the questions, submit your application, and provide the necessary documents attesting to your placement in the top 10% of your class.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship in the Netherlands, one must meet the following requirements:
- To graduate, you must rank in the top ten percent of your class.
- To be eligible for a Dutch study grant and financial aid, you must not be a citizen of the EU or EEA.
- You must have completed your secondary education and/or bachelor’s degree abroad in the Netherlands.
- You must be enrolled in an international master’s program that starts on September 1st.
- Not all programs participate. Kindly check if the master’s program > Tuition fees and financial support is where the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is mentioned as a scholarship opportunity.
Deadline
Prospective students must apply by February 1st at 23:59 CET in order to be eligible for the grant. The application portal will then shut down. The selection procedure won’t start until the deadline has passed. We plan to make the results public by mid-April.
Please note that if your application is submitted between January 27 and February 1, any missing or erroneous information cannot be added or corrected. We recommend submitting as soon as possible to ensure a smooth evaluation process.
